About the Craftshala Initiative
The Craftshala Initiative is a path-breaking educational program designed by HCSSC in strict alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The project aims to bridge the gap between formal education and vocational craft learning by setting up dedicated 'Craftshala Labs' in schools, colleges, and universities across India. Through structured, credit-linked modules (30 to 120 hours), students gain hands-on experience in traditional Indian crafts, fostering a respect for heritage and nurturing future entrepreneurs.
Key Objectives
- Integrate traditional Indian crafts and heritage skill training into the formal school and college curricula.
- Establish fully-equipped 'Craftshala Labs' in academic institutions, supplying authentic tools, materials, and guidelines.
- Deliver NSQF-compliant vocational training modules spanning handloom weaving, pottery, toy making, and woodcarving.
- Train and certify academic faculty as craft facilitators through specialized Training of Trainers (ToT) programs.
- Encourage design thinking and entrepreneurial mindsets in young students through creative craft projects.
