About the Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana (VSSY) - Uttar Pradesh
The Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana (VSSY) is a flagship state welfare initiative launched by the Uttar Pradesh government to structurally uplift traditional, grassroots artisans and craftspeople across urban and rural regions. By targeting eighteen core traditional trades—including carpentry, tailoring, pottery, and blacksmithing—the scheme infuses modern economic capabilities into ancestral skills.
Key Objectives
- Skill Upgradation: Provide a free, six-day residential training program to teach modern techniques, improved production methods, and fundamental business operations.
- Productivity Enhancement: Distribute advanced, technology-backed toolkits worth up to ₹10,000 to beneficiaries upon successful completion of training.
- Financial Inclusion: Facilitate access to affordable, concessional institutional credit ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹10 lakh through the UPKVIB for business expansion.
- Self-Reliance: Foster localized entrepreneurship and self-employment at the grassroots level, successfully stemming rural-to-urban migration.
